In a global survey researching youth development, Singapore ranked top among the 182 nations that took part. The Global Youth Development Index Report, which was released in May 2024, examined how much young people are learning, earning and if they are living healthy, engaged and peaceful lives.
Despite the No.1 ranking, many youth in Singapore are feeling differently. According to findings from a national study published in 2022, about one in three youth has reported internalising mental health symptoms such as sadness, anxiety and loneliness. In January 2024, an Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) poll found that young people are more likely to report higher levels of social isolation and loneliness.
